Define Marriage:

Now that's an interesting title, considering...

The 1948 New Century Dictionary:

Marry: To unite in wedlock; join as husband or wife to one of the opposite sex; also, to give in marriage; also, to take in marriage; fig., to unite intimately; to join together, as two ropes, end to end without increasing the diameter. To enter into the conjugal state; take a husband or wife.

Of course, this is an intensely sensitive topic in our world today. How can I be who I am and not take a particular stand?

On this site however, in speaking of marriage, and not to ignore the enormous debate and upheaval over it's definition; I wanted to share an entirely separate aspect of the institution.

I wanted to delve into a "Songs of Solomon" love story - MY OWN - which I have experienced throughout the past thirty years of my life. What a story! What a love!

I just have to start here:

John 3: 16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

You know, it's one thing to read about everlasting life, but to have that life actually breathed into your very being, well; that is the accomplished end that Jesus had in mind as He hung on the cross and declared with His last breath, "It is finished!"

After living my way for a number of years (with full knowledge that I was on the wrong track - not going His way), I got myself into such a despairing pit, that I knew I had to STOP and no matter what it took, I had to get myself turned around and headed back in the other direction again. I knew my life depended on it - literally.

Once I made that decision in my heart, and it was a whole-hearted decision, then I had to go a step further and force my feet, my body and my mind, to begin to pursue, to walk out and to seek that other direction. It was anything but easy! It was, however, the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life. Yes, rewarding!

Hebrews 11: 6 - But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently see Him.

Genesis 15: 1 - After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Hebrews 10: 35 - Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

I can tell you that I have experienced in my life, since that time of wholehearted commitment and diligent seeking on a daily basis, rewards that I never dreamt or imagined would be added to my life!

Matthew 6: 33 - But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The Lord came to me - just as He promised He would in the "Songs of Solomon"! He became my everything! He has exceeded and surpassed my wildest imaginations of Kingdom of God living. He revealed Himself unto me, in the form of who He truly is; full to way overflowing, is the only way to describe who God is, and who He is to us-ward who believe:

Ephesians 1: 18- 20 - ...the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power. Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at this own right hand in the heavenly places.

Back to 'marriage'...

I love this example, when it comes to defining marriage: When you hear a chef saying, "To this, I'm going to add this and then we'll just let that marinate and marry the two flavors." Yes! Best mental picture I've ever heard for describing the true meaning of marriage."

Ephesians 5: 31, 32 - For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery; but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Ephesians 2: 15 - Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; and that he might reconcile both unto Gd in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby; and came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

2 Corinthians 5: 17, 18 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ...

Being 'married to Him':

Isaiah 54: 5 - For thy Maker is thine husband: the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

To become ONE with your Maker - then and only then - can a person say over their lives, in all truth, "It is finished!" That is total and complete completion!

Col. 2: 10 - And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power;

Col 4: 12 - ...that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

My prayer for you today, is that you come to that place where God is calling each of us. His desire is that we come to know Him and to know ourselves in Him! There's no greater overcoming power and for this life and it's available to any and all who choose it. I sincerely pray that you choose him today!

Phillipians 2: 7 -10 - But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ; yea, doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but dung that I may win Christ. And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith; that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection; and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

I believe that as we come and allow ourselves to be baptized in that resurrection life, He will reveal to us all of the "right" definitions of marriage - between an individual and Himself - between a man and a woman.

John 14: 23 - 26 - Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not, keepeth not my sayings and the word which ye hear is not mine but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Genesis 1:27,28 - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them and God said unto the, Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish....
